To customize your expensive weapon or not?
Hey, who here customizes all there weapons?
Im talking about expensive weapons not just cheap ones were you dont care about.
Is it worth the extra 20% damage? And not being able to trade it or use on another character later?

After Getting My 4'th crystalline, and modded Them(furious, vamp, sundering, zealous)
I just had to.
Its somewhat scary that pixels Can make you jump your heart :<
Also;
People who got Item's like req 7 14/15^50 or likewise, should be banned if they dont costumize it.
i would pay every penny i got on my account for an wep like that, but such weps should belong to the first owner.

While I understand the sentimental value completely I still feel that customizing caster weapons is not a good idea. I mean, you get +20% damage when wanding. What? If it were +20% more damage of spells from item's attribute that would be a different story.

Customized stuff is somewhat harder to accidentally sell to merchants.

What the 2nd post said.
Physical damage dealers is almost a must. Casters, meh.
The only caster weaps I have cutomized are the ones in my HoM.

Ever since I was hacked I've customized everything.
But melee should always be customized.

I wish people would stop and do the math before making ambit claims that "castor" weapons need not be customized.
Suffice to say that in protracted encounter the cumulative sum of any additional damage can be significant, and staves/wands are not exempt from this
For those interested, there are posts extant on this forum should they wish to track them down, which enumerate in some detail the calculations involved. I don't have time to track them down right now however.

I really wish Anet would make customization apply to your account, not to individual characters (most important with weapons, but would also be nice with armor). I have so many weapons I have not customized because I like the idea of seeing how a weapon looks on a character that would not normally use the weapon. Or of using lets say a spear on a monk when I am not playing with my paragon, but being able to give the weapon back to the paragon.
It should not be that difficult to do, and it would make my playing experience much much better.

I customize melee weapons in Pre. It's my only permanent Pre character so I don't have other chars to give them to. The +20% damage makes a difference. And I'm not tempted to sell them or try to strip mods and risk ruining them, whereas I can always upgrade the mods if I want to.
Outside of Pre, not so much. I like the ability to swap stuff among the characters or heroes, or to sell or donate them to someone else if I no longer need them. Say you need a zealous axe on short notice, instead of running around trying to get one I can just take it from whoever's using it.

All that research is pretty useless and people basically wasted their time researching it. Here's why:
Elementalist: With skills like Rodgort's invocation, SF, SH, MS there really is no need to wand mobs. You'd better be spending your time casting and managing your energy pool. That second it takes you to wand something is better spent actually casting spells. Because you're a spellcaster. Not a mobwander.
Mesmer: I mean, really? Would you like to miss that mob casting Aegis, MS or SF just because you were wanding? I know I wouldn't.
Monk: Prot. Heal. Kite. There is no wanding.
Necro: Hmmmm, 20 dmg with a wand or halfway through Barbs casting time to do 10x16 damage per second? Really isn't much of a choice, is it?
In conclusion - wand only to direct fire from minions, henchmen and heroes. Otherwise - cast.

If you're healing and protting all the time as a monk, you're quickly out of energy and just standing there anyway. Many times, if things are going well, my monk is standing around, or tossing his spear. May as well get a few more points of damage off it. Plus when soloing you need to keep wanding to keep the minions and heroes focused.
I get your point though, there are other things you should be doing that take precedence to wanding. But even then, that little bit of extra damage doesn't hurt. (And it is a little it.) For the record, none of my weapons are customized.
